Lokta Paper

Lotka Paper Lokta paper got its name from the Lokta bush from which it is fabricated. Lokta paper is handmade in the mountains of Nepal from the inner bark of this bush. Also referred to as the paper tree, the raw material lokta which is basically the bark of the Lokta plant is a sapling stick of about 5 to 7 feet in length, and cultivated in the Himalayan Mountain region of Nepal. Popular as the most exquisite and versatile papers on the planet, Lokta handmade paper has four deckled edges and is a very strong fiber.

Lokta handmade paper is also known as rice paper, it is Eco-Friendly and no chemicals are used in its manufacture process. It possesses a rich look and comes with an outstanding property of protection against insects for hundred years. Rice paper has an appealing texture and is available in natural and dyed shades.

Lokta is natural colored and heavyweight. This handmade paper is not only acid free and archival, but also accepts laser printing on the smooth side. These beautiful papers are used for art supplies, bookbinding, packaging arts and crafts, picture framing, book making, lampshades, wallpaper and many other creative purposes.

Papermaking has always been an important activity in rural Himalayan regions and since, lotka is one of the strongest and easily available paper fiber, it provides a renewable resource for those artisans who depend on papermaking for their livelihood. Lotka is harvested in a manner similar to sugar cane; this plant has a distinguished feature which allows it to regenerate to maturity again within few years after being cut. Thus, by utilising Lokta sticks, neither the forests are destroyed nor do we face any kind of environmental threat.
